Hey Freelancer ,

Happy 4th of July!

Whether you're taking the day off or sneaking in a little work before fireworks, today’s a great reminder of why so many of us went freelance in the first place:

Freedom.

But here’s the truth no one tells you:
Just because you’re a freelancer doesn't mean you’re free.

This week, we’re talking about how to reclaim the independence you signed up for—so you can build a freelance life that actually feels free.

1. Time Freedom Starts with Boundaries

If you're working 60 hours a week for 6 different clients... That’s not freedom. That’s a job in disguise.

  • Set your working hours—and stick to them

  • Stop saying yes to every project

  • Use auto-responders, schedulers, and clear expectations

👉 You don’t earn more by working more. You earn more by valuing your time.

2. Income Freedom Starts with Packaging

Hourly rates put a ceiling on your income. Real freedom comes when you sell based on value—not time.

  • Productize your services

  • Add a retainer or recurring offer

  • Raise your rates (even 10% makes a difference)

👉 When your offers are clear, your pricing grows with your results—not your hours.

3. Mental Freedom Starts with Systems

Chaos kills creativity. Freedom comes when your business supports you, not the other way around.

  • Create repeatable templates for onboarding, proposals, and delivery

  • Batch your content and admin time

  • Automate what you repeat (invoicing, scheduling, outreach)

👉 A few simple systems = more peace of mind and less burnout.

This Week’s Challenge

Ask yourself:

Where in your freelance business do you feel trapped?
Then take one step this week to reclaim your freedom—whether it’s raising your rate, saying no, or deleting a recurring task that’s not worth it.

You didn’t go freelance to feel stuck. You went freelance to feel free. Let’s build the business that gives you that.

See you next Friday,
Michael Fleischner
